On our exciting adventure to develop the future at Volvo Group, we are now looking for you – our new system architect with expertise in embedded systems, relating to vehicle dynamics and thermal management.
Can you see yourself responsible for both strategic and operational aspects, supporting engineering teams in developing software and hardware solutions for ICE, electric, fuel cell, and autonomous commercial vehicles.

The system architect will be involved in both strategic and operational aspects, supporting engineering teams in developing software and hardware solutions for ICE, electric, fuel cell, and autonomous commercial vehicles.

The Vehicle Motion and Thermal Management (VMTM) stream is an engineering department within Vehicle Technology at Volvo Group Trucks Technology. We lead the development of complete vehicle motion and thermal control solutions for safe, sustainable, and efficient transportation.
Our products consist of software and hardware related to steering, braking, suspension, propulsion, motion control, cooling, and heating systems for trucks.

As part of a small system architect team, you will collaborate to support all substreams within VMTM. You'll find an open-minded approach and a focus on value creation. We strongly believe that enjoying work and having fun is essential for high performance. We encourage individuals to take ownership and consider the broader perspective, keeping both the business and customers in focus.

What you will do within the System Architect team?
  • Work with different engineers across the business to translate conceptual ideas into plans, requirements, and solutions.
  • Define and maintain the description of our system design and architecture solutions, which is applicable for both hardware, software and mechatronic components.
  • Lead and initiate strategically important cross-functional activities.
  • Bring a holistic and system view to the stream and sub-streams.
  • Balance complete vehicle configuration to achieve optimal performance.
  • Participate in several architectural communities to align design strategies and mature bigger architectural steps.
  • Contribute actively in developing the system concept solution; collaborate and review with other architects and developers.
  • Act as a delegate for the stream in certain committees and communities
Who are you?
  • Able to lead and conclude investigations, often with cross functional involvement.
  • Strong experience in embedded E&E systems within the automotive industry
  • Experience in systems engineering and architecture
  • Experience in function and software development in a real-time embedded system
  • Good understanding of the overall product development flow and product lifecycle in a complex global environment, from initial concepts to production and maintenance
  • Former experience from thermal management and or vehicle dynamics systems
  • Knowledge of Automotive standards and practices related to Functional Safety and Cyber-Security
  • Knowledge of onboard communication technologies (LIN, CAN, Ethernet, diagnostic protocol, SOME/IP etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of SW platforms such as Classic and Adaptive Autosar, Linux, Automotive Android

  • Leadership skills and experience
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to abstract, conceptualize and solve multidisciplinary problems
Other key requirements:
  • Experience within the areas of control system and mechatronics
  • An academic education within the engineering area
  • Several years of electronic system development
  • Good knowledge about Embedded SW development and mechatronic system within the automotive industry
  • Experience and understanding of agile development
  • MSc. In Electronics Engineering/Computer Engineering or equivalent
